While the practical and thematic implementation of a CSR policy varies per organisation, it is possible to sketch a general picture of the way in which CSR can be optimally implemented to increase employee engagement.
Managing landscapes for climate-smart agricultural systems: Lesson learned Background Different landscapes require different approaches, depending on the state and nature of the resources, land use dynamics, and social and economic contexts. Eight case studies were presented and analysed in order to illustrate some aspects of a holistic landscape approach in different contexts FAO a.

Planning and management for the hydrological Introduction to people organisation and management of the South American continent — the role of the tropical Andes. Lessons learned Five important messages emerged from these studies: Managing agriculture, forestry and fisheries at a landscape scale is key to achieving sustainable development.
Appropriate land-use planning and decision making at the landscape level should be based on a participatory, consensus-based and people-centred approach. Production sectors are often managed in isolation from each other and this can be counterproductive.
Coordination at the landscape level facilitates the integrated management of production systems and the natural resources that underpin ecosystem services needed for all sectors.
Climate-smart agriculture CSAwhich follows a landscape approach, can address the challenges involved in intersectoral natural resources management. Measuring and monitoring the multiple benefits of climate-smart landscapes is essential for tracking the impact of intersectoral efforts.
Scaling up CSA and moving from pilot projects to large-scale programme and policies by applying a landscape approach requires a diverse range of strategies and practices. It is important to create awareness and partnerships between sectors, mainstream CSA into policies and build capacities at all levels.
These activities must be supported by an enabling policy and market environment. These forests represent a huge carbon sinkare extremely rich in flora and fauna, and are home to more than 30 million people.
However, the use of resources and ecosystem services for supporting both livelihood and economic development is putting increasing pressure on the forests.
Some of the consequences of deforestation and forest degradation are forest fragmentation with negative consequences for both biodiversity and increased emissions of greenhouse gases. A landscape approach offers opportunities to foster connectivity and to promote positive interactions, increase species richness and habitat suitability, as well as to address some of the drivers of deforestation and reduce greenhouse gas GHG emissions.
The vision of the SLS CARPE landscape program is to maintain large areas of forests intact within the landscape and to ensure the conservation of biodiversity while also promoting human well-being. For example, activities include sustainable fishing practices, the rearing of pigs and chickens, and sustainable farming practices that both reduce deforestation and increase the productivity of groundnuts, cowpea, rice, beans and maize.
The aim is that by improving livelihoods, illegal activities such as poaching and bush meat hunting will be reduced along with the overall human pressure on the SLS landscape.
Maintaining the forest intact provides an enormous potential to mitigate the effects of global climate change. Moving forward will entail increased capacity in implementation, improved data for planning, continuous engagement of multiple stakeholders, and the mobilization of additional funds for landscape activities.
The program involved moving the animals through the landscape on basis of a pre-determined sequence according to water availability, grazing competition, distance, and other factors. Most importantly, grazing animals were gathered into tight herds to minimize soil disturbance and to graze different sections of the landscape each day to prevent overgrazing.
Demonstrations proved the value of properly managed herds, allowing plants to regenerate, and led to community planning and the successful implementation of a grazing plan for 6, cattle and 3, sheep and goats in their dry season reserve.

Relationship to CSA The successful land restoration can be attributed to the focus on enhancing the four ecosystem processes that together determine ecosystem health and productivitynamely i the water cycle, ii the mineral cycle, iii energy flow and iv plant and living communities.
The project contributes to all three climate-smart agriculture CSA pillars: The immediate results included: Planned grazing increases the soil surface protection by living and decomposing vegetation, increases soil organic carbon and supports wider soil ecosystem servicesmaking the entire system more resilient to climate change.
This initiative is reversing a long-term trend of carbon release from soil to atmosphere. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisations of the United Nationsrangelands have low carbon sequestration rates on a per unit basis, compared with more highly productive pastures.
Impact and lessons learned Land degradation is primarily a social issue rather than a technical one, and involves a number of key, interconnected elements that have at least four different characteristics: No one issue can be sustainably tackled in isolation. Newcastle Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB) is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how organisations will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do.
Its work crosses the boundaries between the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors and builds upon the best practice achieved by the Area Child Protection Committee.
